About the Founder – Mathias Husby
From Spark to Studio: My Journey into Horology
Every watch enthusiast has, at some point, imagined what it’s like to build a timepiece with their own hands. For me, that dream became reality.
I’m Mathias Husby, a lifelong watch lover, self-taught designer, and the founder of Nomods — a microbrand and modding studio based just outside Oslo, Norway. My journey began at age 14, armed with a beginner toolkit and a box of ten broken vintage watches. I broke nine—but the tenth ticked back to life, however briefly. That small victory lit a fire that never went out.
The Problem I Couldn't Ignore
As I dove deeper into Seiko modding, I kept running into the same frustration: most mod parts were oversized, unrefined, and out of balance—especially for smaller wrists like mine. Instead of compromising, I got to work. I started modding for myself and friends, but when I couldn’t find the one, I made it.
Nomods Was Born Out of Necessity
That drive led me to create my first original watch case: a 37mm Royal Oak–inspired design built specifically for Seiko modding. It was the first of its kind—made for enthusiasts who value proportion, comfort, and thoughtful design. I sold my entire personal collection to fund the project, and from there, Nomods was born. The name? A nod to both “Norwegian Mods” and “No mods” — because sometimes, the right part doesn’t need changing.
What Makes Nomods Different?
Precision Over Production
At Nomods, I don't chase mass production or trends. I pursue clarity, balance, and lasting quality. Every product is built around Seiko’s NH-series movements, a challenging platform with real creative limits—and I love that. It forces precision. It rewards good design.
-
Ultra-thin case profiles
-
Custom low-profile rehauts
-
Perfect dial-to-bezel ratios
-
Tolerances tested to the tenth of a millimeter
I only use premium materials like 316L stainless steel, sapphire crystal, and high-grade dial printing. And yes, I have a deep appreciation for skeletonized movements—you’ll find that DNA in many of my designs.
My Philosophy: Proportions Matter
Modding isn’t just about building a better version of someone else’s watch. It’s about crafting something that feels right—on the wrist, in the hand, and in the heart. I design what I want to wear, which often means smaller, more refined watches in the 36–38mm range. Why? Because comfort, proportion, and restraint are timeless.
If you want something bold yet wearable, personal yet precise—you’re in the right place.
Modding With Meaning
This brand is built on connection. Every time someone uses a Nomods case or part in their build, I’m reminded why I started: to empower others to create something meaningful. Through modding, I’ve met incredible creators, customers, and collectors from around the world. We share a passion, and that passion fuels everything I do.
Mission Statement
To elevate Seiko modding from a niche hobby to a respected form of creative craftsmanship—one intentional build at a time.
For New Modders: A Final Word
Don’t cheap out on the case.
You’ll feel it every time you wear the watch—and the wrong case will remind you that you compromised. You don’t need twenty watches. You need one great one, built with care and made to last.
Whether you’re building your very first mod or your fiftieth, my goal is the same:
To help you make something you're proud of.
See you in the build.
